DESCRIPTION

Aalto University is where people who think differently bring the best out of each other. A place where imagination and theory meet practice and reality. A community to solve challenges most consider impossible.

Our way is to accelerate curiosity and responsibility towards solving the biggest challenges in the world. For this task we offer an academic environment that reimagines the way a university operates.

We are inspirited through the radical creativity of our students and the entrepreneurial mindset of our community. We drive fundamental research and fuel sustainable growth. Make theories become solutions and prototypes become breakthroughs.

Our differences are the gravity that pulls us together and the chemistry that sparks us to action. Together we build beyond the status quo and always find a way forward.

ChemArts lab

Aalto University has a rich foundation in education for biomaterial fabrication. For instance, ChemArts collaboration has been developed since 2011 as a long-term strategic activity in education and research between two Aalto University schools; The School of Chemical Engineering (CHEM) and The School of Arts, Design and Architecture (ARTS). By drawing from tools, methods and infrastructures at the University, through CoCoon we aim to further expand the ways in which students, teachers, researchers and citizens can explore biomaterials together, and to create new concepts for the sustainable use of plant-based materials.

In addition to the contribution to CoCoon’s module-development, Aalto Fablab will work towards building a Green Lab at its new premises. The new Green Lab is designed for growing living plants, fungus, and other bio-based materials in a makerspace setting. Equipped with tools and assistance needed for people without prior experience in the laboratory, this lab will operate with an open access policy to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
