It is one of the oldest and largest organic units of the U.Porto, with a highly diversified training offer in Exact, Natural and Computer Sciences, in all study cycles (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate), with synergies between the different existing scientific areas, which has a culture of a School of Excellence in Science, Research, Technology and Innovation, and with actions in the areas of Culture and Social Responsibility, in an open and inclusive environment. and that intends to promote innovative and sustainable societal impact at regional, national and international level.

Firmly establishes itself as a strong, competitive, and internationally recognized network of excellence in the fields of evolutionary biology, biodiversity and conservation, integrating all levels of biological organization from genes to ecosystems.

. 8 Research Units with FCUP jurisdiction.

. 8 Research Units with their own Jurisdiction.

Relevant for Cocoon project is the CIBIO – Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources – InBIO Associate Laboratory is an internationally recognized Research Unit in biological sciences conducting basic and applied research on the three main components of biodiversity: genes, species and ecosystems. Since January 2011 CIBIO is part of InBIO – Research Network in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology, Associate Laboratory, together with CEABN – Centre for Applied Ecology “Prof. Baeta Neves”, Institute of Agronomy, University of Lisbon. CIBIO is managed by ICETA – Instituto de Ciências, Tecnologias e Agroambiente da Universidade do Porto, a non-profit private institution at the University of Porto. In April 2019, CIBIO was awarded the TEAMING project BIOPOLIS. Funded in the scope of the Horizon 2020 Widening program the BIOPOLIS aims the upgrade of CIBIO-InBIO, to a Centre of Excellence in the areas of Environmental Biology, Ecosystem Research and Agrobiodiversity, through extensive Teaming activities with the partner University of Montpellier (UM), France, and the Porto Business School (PBS), Portugal.
